HDRP hosts overseas dental clinics in four countries:
- Kathmandu, Nepal
- Ladakh, India
- Central Vietnam
- Guatemalan Highlands
Through continuing clinics, new investments and thriving partnerships with local service and charitable organizations, HDRP is able to host more volunteers and treat more children with each passing year.
Dental care is essential, yet many countries suffer critical shortages of dental professionals. Nepal, for example, has approximately 250 dentists to serve a population of 25 million.
At the same time, globalization and changing economies have dramatically increased children’s access to sugar. Parents who grew up in the absence of such sweets are largely unaware of the dramatic change we see in their children’s oral health.
HDRP’s approach evolved through ten years of field experience. This year, with children returning for their third visit, we see children who have been under our care for the past six years. The results are clear – extractions are rare, restorations small, and, most importantly, children are aware of the importance of diet and consistent oral hygiene.
We are dedicated to the children we treat, and grateful for their wide smiles and enthusiastic response to dental care.
