Fresh News from the field
November 2007
Dear Friends –
Namaste from Nepal where we are wrapping up work and heading to a last dental camp in Vietnam.
The fall has been rich with great work on kids, chock full of amazing volunteers, and logistically quite a challenge. Due to strong volunteer signups and the work of dedicated month-long volunteers (dentist Tom Grams, hygienists Dee and Mary, and Joanne and Carole on records), we treated twice as many children in 2007 – nearly 8000 in all.
The Himalayan Dental Relief Project(HDRP) brings free dental care to impoverished children and families ofNepal, northern India, Vietnam and Guatemala in partnership with local organizations.
Volunteer dentists, hygienists, and non-medical volunteers deliver treatment and preventative care in dental clinics that serve children in schools, orphanages and remote villages.
HDRP seeks dentists, hygienists, and
non-dental volunteers wishing to extend their work to a global setting. HDRP expands the level of dental care available to children through:
Ongoing recruitment of volunteer jobs in dental clinics for dentists, hygienists, and non-medical volunteers;
Work with local partners to establish dental camps for children in Nepal, northern India, Vietnam and Guatemala;
Procure dental equipment and supplies to expand care and to reach more children; and
Train local dental assistants and sponso education to expand local capacity for dental care.
We partner with Global Humanitarian Expeditions (GHE), a non-profit volunteer service organization dedicated to handling volunteer logistics for humanitarian projects.
